Outsiders does a fantastic job despite lack of funding from the government. We all work for no money, running the club, the trust and the helpline, and somehow manage to scrape together the funds to survive, thanks to members sending donations and our own fundraising events through the Leydig Trust.
But we don't see why we shouldn't be paid, as we are specialist professionals pioneering an invaluable service which is unique in the world. We have laboured over endless time consuming, energy draining and tedious grant applications to The Department of Health and grant-giving trusts, but have never received core funding. It seems that disabled people actually being happy in their lives is not important: loneliness and frustration rule. This is despite this statement from The Government, following lobbying by The Disability Rights Commission, that they guarantee that the new equality and human rights commission will cater for the distinct needs of disabled people and that the programme of legal reform will continue. This will include disabled peoples 'right to be sexual beings'.
Until as such times that we get the support we deserve, we ask you, please, to send us some money to help us along. The Outsiders Trust can send you a Gift Aid Declaration or simply send a cheque. Just think of the pleasure this will bring!
