New “My Beautiful Face” series looking for disabled people

A new “My Beautiful Face” series for Channel 4 is looking for disabled people who would like to be featured

Clare Richards, who made the lovely documentary, “Disabled and Looking for Love” about Outsiders, is now working with Katie Piper on an entire series on coming to terms with having a body which is “different”.

The original documentary, ‘Katie: My Beautiful Face’ told the story of Katie Piper, a former model and television presenter who was a victim of an acid attack in March 2008. As a result of the attack, Katie underwent extensive facial reconstructive surgery to rebuild her face – as well as her confidence. The programme followed Katie’s journey towards recovery and attempt to rebuild her life.

Clare is now working with Katie on a new 4-part documentary series following her life as she sets up a charity to directly meet and help people who are going through a similar experience. We are hoping that this new charity will work alongside Outsiders.

Clare would like to hear from people that are currently confronting a changed appearance whether as a result of a condition, illness or a trauma such as a burn. She says “By documenting Katie’s continuing journey, and the stories of others like her, we hope to challenge public perceptions of beauty and show that life doesn’t have to stop with a disfigurement.” You can contact Clare on clare.e.richards@googlemail.com
