Tuppy Owens speaks at Different Stroke Sex Conference

The 2006 AGM of Different Stroke s on Saturday 7th October had a theme of sex, and was opened by Dr Tom Shakespeare.

Tom proposed that the Sexual Rights of Disabled People should be:-

  • to be treated as an adult, with dignity
  • to have knowledge
  • to be sexual and take risks
  • not to be at the mercy of care givers
  • to live free from sexual abuse.

Tuppy presented a brief history of Outsiders and said that no Stroke survivor should be made to sit for years without speech or friends. It is the duty of society to provide contact with people who can communicate with them without words. At which she introduced Pru, a friendly sex worker to the audience, and Pru spoke eloquently about her services.

The AGM finished with the screening of Havana Marking's new Channel 4 film, The Chrippendale, which has since caught the attention of the media with a review in the Observer (15th October) and discussions on Radio 5 on the morning of 20th October.
