We seek to form alliances with other disability groups.
Outsiders has been forced to work in isolation since our very beginning, but now that our work is finally being recognised, we seek to form alliances with other disability groups.
The first step was to invite groups along to our 25th Anniversary celebrations at The Landmark Hotel Marylebone on 14th August 2004. This was only partially successful, but several disability magazines covered our celebration, including the Spinal Injuries magazine 'Forward'. The FPA invited us to visit them as did the College of Occupational Therapists who agreed to distribute leaflets on Outsiders to clients.
The second step was to set up the Sexual Health & Disability Alliance (SHADA) for helpline operators who cater to people with disabilities. This has been a great success! You can read more about it on our SHADA page.
The third phase is to speak with other agencies to find ways to start working in partnership with them. Several groups have approached us and we are currently discussing becoming a partner in the Youthnet project. We are also approaching other groups for people with Aspergers Syndrome to offer more help in starting and forming relationships.
