We are delighted that there are, at last, wonderful Outsiders events taking place up north. Lilian travels all the way from Middlesbrough down to Sheffield to run the event with Chris, as Sheffield seems to be a convenient centre.
A lively group gather at the Showroom Café on the last Saturday of each month from 2pm to 5pm.
The Showroom is at 7 Paternoster Row, S1 2BX, just up the hill from Sheffield Railway station, past the waterfalls. It's in the heart of Sheffield's cultural centre and has friendly staff. People sit at tables to each their lunch and then relax on the sofas. Lilian, who is blind, is trying to organize other activities in the North.
Yorkshire update from Lilian (30 June 2010):
Our next event is scheduled for Saturday 31 July 2010 and will be run solely by Chris because I shall be attending my old college's reunion.
Our past two lunches in Sheffield have been a big success again, with new people turning up each time. In May eight of us, including two new members, gathered at the usual venue and had a good time. We had a pleasant afternoon with everyone including new members making a good contribution to the group.
Our June lunch was a mixed affair. We were to have had a barge trip, but this had not proven possible to organize because they would not guarantee us the help we would need. Instead, we had a normal lunch at the usual venue. Again we had a pleasant afternoon and, despite the freezers breaking down, the staff at the venue were able to offer us a reasonable menu and were also very helpful and obliging as usual.
